How The Xbox Original Changed Gaming Forever

As Someone born in 1995, I have seen how Modern Gaming changed and all the aspects around it so today in this article today I want to present to you 5 reasons how the Xbox Orignal Changed Gaming Forever, Without this console gaming would be very different, Why you ask? let’s start Why.

While the current gaming industry looks very different now than it did back in late 2001 when the XBox got officially launched this article will also explain how we got there with this very Xbox launch from Microsoft themselves.

If you prefer Sony over Xbox we respect this there’s no right or wrong answer here but please remember we do not do favoritism when it comes to gaming consoles as the “G” in TGA stands for Gaming and we love all gaming consoles, Our articles are for entertainment purposes and are factual with history only.

1: Built-In Hard Drive

Consoles at the time were even using a 128MB memory card that you had to slot in yourself such as the Sony PlayStation 1 so Microsoft CEO at the time Bill Gates was like screw this and copped an 8-10GB of HDD storage in the original Xbox.

This was a start of an era for the gaming world as they learned that you didn’t need to have a memory card to save gaming data files, of course, this eventually did develop into portable hard drives and other ways you can now store gaming data, But the good old memory card completely vanished after the Sony PS2 was released, This is partly thanks to Microsoft seeing that there’s absolutely no use in them.

both the PS1 and 2 were obsessed with their memory cards whereas Microsoft had an entirely new concept and introduced actual hard drives to the world of gaming, This changed everything forever and it was only a matter of time before memory cards would die.

2: Better Quality Graphics

While we did have PS2 for an entire year roughly the Xbox is still worth mentioning here.

Below we will display a picture of both of these title side by side and you can see how graphical things were getting, compared to GTA 1 released on the PS1, and GTA 3 the first title to be released on any Xbox this title obviously did come to the PS2 as well, PS2 did get it first we are not denying this.

The first one is GTA One released on PS One, and The second one is GTA 3 released on Xbox Orginal and PS2.

As you can see the first-ever Xbox clearly had a huge graphical advantage right out of the box.

While the PS2 was released in 2000 a year before Microsft ever thought about making a console this is still a point worth adding as a first impression is still an impression that can last forever.

3: Included Built-in Ethernet Port

While the PS2 did have the network and online multi-player functionalities it did require a network adapter to even use this feature, Microsoft completely hated this idea too and decided to add a port where you can easily connect your broadband ethernet cable to the console and then go online, One cord was all you needed.

Sony followed this when the PS3 was released and needing a network adapter eventually faded away, Later on as we know everything went wireless and you no longer need to ethernet port or adapter things but back then the Xbox Orginal was a game changer in this area too.

It also had built-in LAN and online gaming which made online gaming so much easier and more accessible.

4: Music Introduction

I remember as a kid in the early 2000s playing Linkin Park in the background while grinding to some V8 Supercars, At the time mobile phones were really slow and had no touch screen as we know it today so this was a feature everyone would die for. So no Spotify or Apple Music did not change gaming music, Xbox originally did this too, although ideas get taken and made into a better version of itself for modern times.

The PS2 did not come with this feature sadly, As an Xbox Orginal feature it’s safe to say Microsoft made gaming fun back then, PS2 did have its own positives but this article is about Microsoft mainly.

5: Accessories Better

The Orginal Xbox came with a bunch of accessories such as Xbox DVD Movie, Playback Kit, Xbox Music Maker and so much more that Sony did not have on their consoles at the time, This revolutionized the gaming industry forever, It was the very start of gaming videos.

While it isn’t how we know it today and YouTube didn’t even exist yet (launched in 2005) this soon did become something great as Microsoft kept adding on to these types of features with their Xbox Series and Microsoft Windows OS.

6: Gaming Exclusives

Halo is actually exclusive to only the Xbox Original, At the time this was the main exclusive title to the Orignal Xbox but we would like to mention a few more.

Other titles such as Forza Motorsports were also exclusive to Xbox only although the Forza series did not gain attention or blow up until around 2007 but it’s still worth mentioning.
