Forza Motorsport – 2005

Forza Motorsport was released on May 3, 2005 is a simulation racing video game. Players compete in events around the globe using real licensed cars on a variety of real world and fictional courses. It features an arcade mode, meant more for quickplay of races, and a career mode, which is focused on long-term play. Career mode spans several racing disciplines, spanning from racing of common commuter cars to those in racing series such as Super GT and Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters as well as other sports car racing series. To help players acclimate to the simulation style of racing, assists such as an ideal racing line, anti-lock brakes and traction control can be used. There are 231 cars in Forza Motorsport ranging from a Honda Civic to supercars such as the Enzo Ferrari and Le Mans race prototypes such as the Audi R8. There are nine classes of cars, spanning standard production vehicles to sports and high performance cars to purpose-built race cars. Each car can be upgraded and tuned with a large number of extras and parts.

Forza Motorsport 2 – 2007

Forza Motorsport 2 was released on May 29, 2007 simulation racing video game on the Xbox 360 and the sequel to Forza Motorsport, which was released for the Xbox in 2005. Players compete in events around the globe using real licensed cars on a variety of real-world and fictional courses. It features an arcade mode, meant more for quickplay of races, and a career mode, which is focused on long-term play. Career mode spans several racing disciplines, spanning from racing of common commuter cars to those in racing series such as Super GT and Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters as well as other sports car racing series. The game supports split-screen, System Link and Xbox Live multiplayer gaming. Split-screen allows two-player head-to-head racing, while both System Link and Xbox Live allow up to eight players to participate in a single race. Using Xbox Live, players can also buy in-game cars through the game’s auction house, sell and ‘gift’ cars.

Forza Motorsport 3 – 2009

Forza Motorsport 3 was released on October 23, is a 2009 racing video game developed for Xbox 360 by Turn 10 Studios. It is the sequel to Forza Motorsport 2 and the third installment in the Forza series. The game includes more than 400 customizable cars (more than 500 cars in the Ultimate Collection version) from 50 manufacturers and more than 100 race track variations with the ability to race up to eight cars on track at a time. These cars vary from production cars to race cars such as those from the American Le Mans Series.

New additions to the game include an in-car driving view, one button assisted driving, vehicle rollover with detailed undercarriages, drifting, drag racing, and SUVs (Mostly Crossovers). Also new to the series is the addition of stock cars, albeit generic. Furthermore, the game also provides the ability to paint and upgrade all cars, whereas Forza Motorsport 2 only allowed for production and tuner cars to be painted or upgraded (although one downloadable Peugeot LMP could be painted). Also included is the ability to upgrade certain production and tuner cars to the race-class level (represented by the performance ratings R3, R2, and R1) whereas Forza Motorsport 2 did not, as well as the ability to create in-game videos and upload them to the Forza Motorsport website. 

Forza Motorsport 4 – 2011

Forza Motorsport 4 was released on October 11, 2011 racing video game developed by Turn 10 Studios and published by Microsoft Studios for the Xbox 360. And the fourth in the Forza Motorsport series. Like Sony’s Gran Turismo franchise, Forza games are racing simulations; heavy emphasis is placed on making the cars drive and look as realistic as possible. Races are conducted on closed circuit tracks. 500 cars are featured in the core game experience, ranging from city cars to race cars.

Players can utilize Kinect to look into a corner using a new head tracking feature. This allows them to look toward the apex of a corner or at nearby cars. The controller or steering wheel is used to control the car while Kinect is used independently for viewing around the driver. Players can also use Kinect as a game controller. In this setting the game automatically accelerates and decelerates the player’s vehicle utilizing a modified version of the feature known as Auto Brake in Forza Motorsport 3. The steering is controlled by placing the players arms out as if controlling an invisible steering wheel. Kinect will allow the player to use voice commands to start races and navigate menus.

Forza Horizon – 2012

Forza Horizon was released on 23 October 2012, Racing video game developed by Playground Games and published by Microsoft Studios for the Xbox 360 on 23 October 2012. The game is the fifth instalment of the Forza series, having originally spun-off from Turn 10 Studios’ Forza Motorsport series. Taking place during the fictitious Horizon Festival, a street racing event, the player’s aim is to progress via winning races, while also increasing their popularity level by performing stunts and activities. Unlike previous games in the Forza series, Forza Horizon takes place in an open-world that players can explore.

Forza Horizon focuses specifically on casual street racing, rather than professionally on race tracks, as it takes place on a map of temporarily closed public roads. The open-world map that players can explore is based on the U.S. state of Colorado. It features multiple types of races, such as drifting competitions, off-road rally, and traditional point-to-point races. The roads feature both AI traffic and, when playing online, other player-controlled drivers. Players may challenge the other racers they encounter to a one-on-one race to a given location. The races start at the current location, and finish at a randomly generated way-point, usually more than 500 meters away from the player and their opponent.

Forza Motorsport 5 was released on November 22, 2013 Racing video game developed by Turn 10 Studios and published by Microsoft Studios for the Xbox One. Jeremy Clarkson, who was featured in the previous installment, Forza Motorsport 4, returned to narrate alongside James May, and Richard Hammond who co-presented alongside Jeremy in Top Gear

Forza Horizon 2 – 2014

Forza Horizon 2 was released on 30 September (AU 2 October), ( EU 3 October 2014) Racing video game developed for Microsoft’s Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles. It is the sequel to 2012’s Forza Horizon and the seventh instalment in the Forza series. The Xbox One version of the game was developed by Playground Games, the team behind the original Forza Horizon, while Sumo Digital developed the version for Xbox 360, with Forza series developer Turn 10 Studios supporting both builds. The Xbox 360 version is also the final Forza game released for the platform. 

Forza Horizon 2 is featuring an open world environment. The player participates in the Horizon Festival, a fictional racing competition set within Southern France and Northern Italy. The game has approximately three times more drivable area than that of its predecessor Forza Horizon, with events set in Provence, Liguria and Côte d’Azur (Nice) along with scaled down towns of Sisteron and Saint-Martin-du-Var. There is a small part of the map that includes parts of the Amalfi Coast and a fictional town called Castelletto which consists of features from the town of Amalfi. There is also some small features in the map like the golf course, the docks (which are only accessible in the Xbox One version of the game) and aerodrome. Players can explore the expansive map, taking part in races and special events in order to advance through the game. Events can take place at day or night, and a dynamic weather system was added for the first time in a Forza-series game.

Forza Motorsport 6 – 2015

Forza Motorsport 6 was released on September 15, 2015. Motorsport 6 is a racing video game developed by Turn 10 Studios and published by Microsoft Studios for the Xbox One. It is the sixth Forza Motorsport and eighth overall installment in the Forza series.

Its features new gameplay elements, such as rain and night racing returned from Forza Motorsport. Also featured, is a new story mode called “Stories of Motorsport”, which offers approximately 70 hours of gameplay. Forza Motorsport 6 features more than 450 cars, more than twice the number of cars in Forza Motorsport 5, and 27 tracks.

Forza Horizon 3 – 2016

Forza Horizon 3 was released on 27 September 2016 and its a racing video game developed by Playground Games and published by Microsoft Studios for the Xbox One and Windows. It is the ninth instalment in the Forza series and the third instalment in its spinoff Forza Horizon.

The game is set in a fictionalised Australia, where the player is the leader of the titular Horizon car festival and has to expand the festival by completing events to earn fans. Like previous Forza Horizon games, it features an open world environment where players can freely roam the map.

Forza Horizon 3 is a racing video game set in an open world environment based in a fictional representation of Australia. The gameplay world is about twice the size of Forza Horizon 2, and the game contains locales and regions based upon their real-life Australian counterparts. While previous Forza Horizon games have depicted the player as being one of the racers of the Horizon Festival, the player is now the director of the festival, and their role is to expand it throughout Australia by completing races, challenges, and stunts to earn fans. If enough fans are earned at a certain threshold, the player can set up new festival locations and unlock more events.

Forza Motorsport 7 – 2017

Forza Motorsport 7 was released on October 3, 2017 and its a racing video game developed by Turn 10 Studios and published by Microsoft Studios, serving as the tenth installment in the Forza series. It was released on Windows 10 and the Xbox One family of consoles in October 3.

Motorsport 7 is featuring over 700 cars including new Forza Edition cars, most of which have been brought over from Forza Horizon 3 and more than 200 different configurations to race on across 32 locations at launch and Two features that are new to the Motorsport title include dynamic weather (previously seen in Horizon titles) and customisable drivers.

Forza Horizon 4 – 2018

Forza Horizon 4 was released on the 2nd October 2018 and its a racing video game developed by Playground Games and published by Microsoft Studios.It was released for Windows and Xbox One after being announced at Xbox’s E3 2018 conference.

The game is set in a fictionalized representation of areas of Great Britain with regions that include condensed representations of Edinburgh, the Scottish Highlands, the Lake District (including Derwentwater), Ambleside and the Cotswolds (including Broadway), Bamburgh among others. Its also the fourth Forza Horizon title and eleventh instalment in the Forza series. The game is noted for its introduction of changing seasons to the series, as well as featuring several content-expanding updates which have included new game modes.

The game features a route creator which enables players to create races using completely customised routes. The game takes place in a synchronised shared world, compared to the AI-driven ‘drivatars’ from its predecessors, with each server supporting up to 72 players. The game is also playable in offline mode

Forza Horizon 5 – 2021

Forza Horizon 5 was released on November 9, 2021 and its is a racing video game developed by Playground Games and published by Xbox Game Studios. It is the fifth Forza Horizon title and twelfth main instalment in the Forza series. The game set in an open world environment based in a fictional representation of Mexico. The game has the largest map in the entire Forza Horizon series, being 50% larger than its predecessor, Forza Horizon 4, while also having the highest point in the Horizon series.

The map was described by creative director Mike Brown as one of the most diverse Forza Horizon maps the team has built. The map contains an active caldera volcano, jungles and beaches, ancient Mayan temples, and towns and cities such as Guanajuato. Players can explore the open world freely, though they can also compete in multiplayer races and complete the campaign mode.

Forza Motorsport (8)

Forza Motorsport (8) will be released in October 10, 2023 and it is an upcoming sim racing video game developed by Turn 10 Studios and published by Xbox Game Studios. The thirteenth main installment in the Forza series, the game is scheduled to be released in 2023 for Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series X/S. 

Although it is the eighth Forza Motorsport title, succeeding Forza Motorsport 7, it will be a reboot for the titular sub-series, dropping the sequential numbering from past entries’ titles.

At launch, Forza Motorsport will have more than 500 vehicles and 800 upgrades, with gameplay elements down to the different sounds created by each enhanced component. Around 80 vehicles from all eras and racing vehicle kinds are among the vehicles that have been so far announced. While over 100 of these will be brand-new to the series, many of them will be returning from earlier Forza Motorsport games.

The game will include elements like ray tracing in real-time on the track, tire wear, dynamic time of day that influences track grip, damage upgrades with defined damage, and dirt buildup. There will be other effects, like “animated track life”, “physically based lighting and volumetric fog effects”, and “a fully procedural cloud system”. The game also includes a single-player career mode and several online multiplayer modes.
